Our third year brings exciting new vendors, including 4505 Meats, Spring Hill Cheese and Little City Gardens located in San Francisco. Crafty artisans Zia Designs, Smokin’ Pottery and Georgie Girl will also be selling this year. We are honored to continue working with our loyal vendors who have been with us since the start. Thank you for your support!

As a true community destination, MCM offers more than a traditional farmer’s market. Opening day will feature musical performance by the renowned LoCura, recently featured in the National Geographic World Music series; and ABADÁ-Capoeira dance performance. More entertainment to be announced, please stay tuned.

Mission Community Market is open every Thursday at Bartlett & 22nd from 4-8pm.

See you there!!

Thank You for an Amazing Year! Hasta April!

Dear Friend of the Mission Community Market,Donate to the MCM today

Happy Holidays from the Mission Community Market! Thanks for a great 2011, our first complete season! You made it happen! It’s still not too late to give the gift of a successful, fun and beautiful community marketplace in 2012.

Donate to the MCM Today

Make a 2011 tax-deductible donation now, before December 31st, and a generous private donor will match your donation up to $5,000! Wow! Your donation will bring bilingual health education, after-school programs, and murals to MCM!

Thanks to you and our partners, MCM has:
  • Started the Mission Health Promotora Project, providing healthy food incentives and bilingual education to low-income families
  • Created sales opportunities for 26 women-owned and 11 first-time micro-entrepreneurs
  • Replaced 1000 square feet of graffiti with three murals, including a replica of San Francisco’s hidden first mural
  • Created 5 local jobs, including 3 youth trainees, while bringing over 1000 volunteer hours into the community

With you, the Mission Community Market will continue to grow healthy families, catalyze micro-enterprise, and transform Bartlett into a community space. Your support of $50 will help bring bilingual health promotoras to teach nutrition. $100 can create a play area on a Thursday. Or put a mural up for $1500, and the city will double your donation! We already have the artists ready to go! If your budget doesn’t permit now, consider volunteering, vending or performing next year! There are so many ways to be involved in your community!

On behalf of the dedicated MCM staff and Board of Advisors, we wish to thank our community partners: La Cocina, CARECEN, Urban Sprouts, the Women’s Initiative, MEDA, Community Music Center, Mission Beacon, New Door Ventures and, most importantly, YOU. Thank you so much for 2011 and we wish you a happy and healthy 2012!

Sincerely,

Jeremy Shaw
Executive Director

P.S. Gifts to the MCM are completely tax-deductible and can often be matched by your employer!By giving now you can take advantage of this deduction in the 2011 tax year!

We would especially like to thank the SEED Fund, the Rebar Group, Anneke Swinehart and Cindy Burkowski for helping us re-design public space on Bartlett Street!

If you or your company would like to significantly help the community to transform public space on Bartlett with sustainable landscape, comfortable lighting, and walkable design, please write us now. Your support of a design is the key to hundreds of thousands of construction dollars. Timed with nearby projects, by 2014 we can make Bartlett a dramatically more safe, fun and beautiful community space!

Happy Boy still has dry-farmed tomatoes! Fix up that last minute holiday salsa, can some for the winter, and freeze some for hearty winter soups. Here is a recipe for a new twist, which also utilizes their beautiful carrots:

Tahini Tomato Carrot Roast

Big bunch of carrots, cut into sticks
A few big tomatoes, quartered or cubed
1/2 cup tahini
Olive oil to coat
1 lemon, cut into thin coins
3 cloves garlic, minced
salt and pepper to taste

Combine everything in a roasting pan and roast at 375 degrees for 25 minutes or until done. Voila!
